Our Lord! do not punish us if we forget or fall into error
رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِن نَّسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
Rabbanaa laa tu’aakhithnaa in naseenaa aw akhta’naa
It can be recited
- To save oneself from the punishment of Allah (due to one’s negligence or errors)
Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us.
رَبَّنَا وَلَا تَحْمِلْ عَلَيْنَا إِصْرًا كَمَا حَمَلْتَهُ عَلَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِنَا
Rabbanaa walaa tahmil ‘alaynaa isran kamaa hamaltahu ‘alal-latheena min qablinaa
It can be recited for
- Protection from afflictions and calamities
Our Lord, and lay not on us a burden greater than we have the strength to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so Help us against the disbelieving people.”
رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ ۖ وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا ۚ أَنتَ مَوْلَانَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ
Rabbanaa walaa tuhammilnaa maa laa taaqata lanaa bihi, wa’fu annaa, waghfir lanaa warhamnaa, Anta Mawlaanaa fansurnaa ‘alal- qawmil-kaafireen
Surah Al-Baqarah ,verse 286
It can be recited for
- Protection from unbearable burden i.e grief, sorrows, tests and calamities
- Forgiveness of your sins
- To seek Allah’s Mercy
- To seek Allah’s Protection
- Victory and success over the disbelievers and the enemies
Dua to stay protected from any disgrace and punishment on the Judgement day
“Our Lord! Indeed, whom You admit to the Fire, then surely, You have disgraced him, and never will the wrongdoers find any helpers.”
رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ ۖ وَمَا لِلظَّـٰلِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ
Rabbanaa ‘innaka man tudkhilin-naara faqad akhzaytahu wa maa lidh–dhaalimeena min ansaar.
Surah Al-Imran,verse 192
This dua can be recited for the following purposes.
- Protection from the torment of the Fire
- To save oneself from being disgraced on the day of Judgement

Dua to seek forgiveness and Protection from the torment of the Fire
“Our Lord, indeed we have believed, so forgive for us our sins and save us from the punishment of the Fire”
رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ
Rabbanaa innanaa aamannaa faghfir lanaa thunoobanaa waqinaa ‘athaaban-naar
Surah Al-Imran,verse 16
It can be recited
- To seek forgiveness of your sins
- Protection from the torment of the Fire
This is the supplication of Al-Muttaqin.
