The carriers of the Qur’an are recognized by their nights (standing in prayer) when the people are asleep,

by their days fasting when the people are feasting,

by their caution when the people mix [the lawful and the unlawful],

by their humility when the people are arrogant,

by their sobriety when the people are frivolous,

by their weeping when the people are laughing,

and by their silence when the people chatter.
